Gallery of paintings: Lindsay Davies

Y Llunwyr ~ The Picturemakers: a collective of artists working in mid-Wales.

Lindsay Davies

Lindsay Davies, born in Altrincham, Cheshire; studied Social Anthropology at Cambridge University; trained as an Occupational Therapist in 1986.

I settled in Mid Wales in 1996, working at Llandrindod Hospital until retiring in 2012. HND part time in Design Crafts at Hereford Art College 2001-2005.

My background is in amateur life drawing / mixed media paintings and ceramics. I had a spell in the early 2000s when I was selling work to local galleries.

I go out into the hills and draw on a regular basis and then I return to the studio to translate my sketches into paintings. I enjoy being part of an art collective: discussing painting and drawing with other painters; putting my work up for constructive criticism and discussing other painters' work, learning more about the whole process.

Since discovering the wonderful nature reserve near Rhayader: Cors y Lyn last year, I am still in love with it! I have been visiting it in all weathers and all seasons. I am slowly getting to know it so that I can paint it. It is only accessible walking along a wooden boardwalk but it is possible to walk around it and I have been filling my sketchbooks with images.

I went to stay for a few days near Cader Idris this spring and really enjoyed painting and drawing this magnificent mountain and the wild weather that often surrounds it.

In the meantime, I still go out locally and draw Donkey lane or Gwastedyn: these Rhayader landscapes are old favourites with me.
