Gallery of paintings: Lindsay Davies

Y Llunwyr ~ The Picturemakers: a collective of artists working in mid-Wales.

Lindsay Davies

Lindsay Davies, born in Altrincham, Cheshire; studied Social Anthropology at Cambridge University; trained as an Occupational Therapist in 1986. I settled in Mid Wales in 1996, working at Llandrindod Hospital until retiring in 2012. HND part time in Design Crafts at Hereford Art College 2001-2005. My back ground is in amateur life drawing, mixed media paintings, textiles and ceramics. I go out into the hills and draw on a regular basis and then I return to the studio to translate my sketches into paintings. I enjoy being part of an art collective: discussing painting and drawing; putting my work up for constructive criticism; reviewing other painters work and participating in the processes of exhibiting and promoting our art work.

January 2019 I have included two images of paintings from my trip to Colonsay that were exhibited last summer in The Sea exhibition in Aberystwyth Arts Centre. Colonsay is full of light and water, a long flattish island never far from the sea. We flew back to the mainland in a little 9 seater aircraft on a sunny day, skimming the skerries and watching the patterns of the tides rolling onto the outlying islands. It was magical. This year I want to work more directly from my sketchbooks and bring some of that freshness into my work. Recently I have enjoyed incorporating collage and fabric into my paintings and am looking forward to doing more of this. I shall be returning to Cors y Llyn, and exploring Gilfach Nature reserve, both local to Rhayader and going out drawing with Arwystli “plein air” painting group.
