Artist's statement
Working directly from Nature develops a good eye and compassion for the world around us. The practice of painting and drawing is a journey and a dialogue.We give something and receive something. It is ultimately life-affirming. The long tradition of European figurative and landscape painting appeals deeply to me.

Biography
Karl Sylvester
Born 1969.
1987-88 Foundation Course in Art, Herts college of Art and Design.
1988-93 MA(hons) Fine Art, Edinburgh University.
1993-95 MFA Painting, Edinburgh College of Art.
Since graduating I have continued to paint, draw and exhibit my work. I have been based in Rhayader since 2003 and coordinate a life drawing group in the town.
