Biography

Ann Williams

Ann Williams trained at Cardiff College of Art. After graduating, she chose teaching as a career. Her first Aberystwyth post was at Coleg Ceredigion and subsequently she taught at Penglais Secondary School where she was Head of Art.

Originally from South Wales, Ann has lived longer in Aberystwyth than anywhere else and creates her pictures to convey her sense of place. Her paintings are in some ways, an extension of earlier textile compositions that explored the landscape of Wales; they still have the same strong sense of pattern, colour & texture and the brushstrokes often mirror stitches.

The work shows the artistic process of recording images and pushing that process forward, often to arrive at semi-abstract conclusions. She hopes the paintings will make the viewer see their environment in a new way. Ann has exhibited with a number of groups and has work in private collections in Britain, Canada, the Netherlands and Sweden.
